Powered by her handsome boys (twins!), her family, and a big ol’ cup of coffee, she’s always ready to hit the ground running! She loves working out and she’s also a Cycle Instructor at a boutique spin studio in Baltimore called Resistance Cycle. #impressed!

And she is our very own Director of Special Programs & Executive Function Coach: Samantha Dougherty!

Keep reading to know her a little better, what career advice she would give her younger self, her favorite thing about Wright Academics, and more!

This is the first of five interviews with the fascinating and inspiring Leadership Team at Wright Academics.

Ready? First question!

1. What got you interested originally in your current business and work?

I was a former teacher who had just started a family (twin boys) so I wanted to be part of a company that offered flexibility, as a new mom, but also allowed me to use my degree in education!

2. Who or what inspires you in your career?

All educators are superheroes. All of us coaches are bringing different experiences, different approaches, and more. There are endless opportunities to learn from each other.

3. What’s something you want more people to know about?

I hope everyone learns that executive function skills are tools we all utilize, but are not all skilled in. They are not explicitly taught so it is very common that students struggle in this area. BUT, these skills can be learned and this is where we can help!

4. What’s your favorite thing about Wright Academics?

The opportunity; I have met new people, helped support so many families, and I have been able to grow professionally.

5. What’s the Wright Academics success story you’re most proud of?

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback I get from the families I work with is that their child wants to come to our sessions and is bummed when they end. Students feel connected to me and that is what makes me feel successful in this role.

6. What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

An iced coffee!

7. How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?

“You go, girl!” – I have always wanted to work with people, and here I am.

8. What career advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t worry about what others have to say about your career path. Everyone has an opinion and some of them just are not meant to serve you!

9. What’s your favorite season and why?

This is a toss-up between summer and fall – I love those hot beach days, but man do I love a crisp fall day. Winter and the snow that comes with it can get lost!!!

Thank you Samantha for all your fantastic answers! I love a crisp fall day too and of course iced coffee…who doesn’t love iced coffee!

I’m taking a few things with me, especially the advice you would give your younger self.
