Working together with parents, tutors, school personnel, and other professionals, Wright Academics wants to ensure that each student is receiving the best targeted and individualized instruction and support possible.
Owner and Director of Wright Academics
My passion is helping students and families succeed so that they achieve their maximum potential in and out of the classroom. With over 25 years of experience working with children and their families in public and private schools, as well as in private practice, my focus is understanding the individual’s learning profile, guiding families of children with learning differences and matching students to the tutor or coach that best fits the student. I believe in not only matching educational needs to the right tutor’s skills, but matching a student to the tutor with the right personality.
Director of Special Programs & Executive Function Coach
Samantha (MA in Early Childhood Education from UMBC) is our Director of Special Programs at Wright Academics. She organizes, plans, and develops our Summer Programs, partnerships, and more! Additionally, she works with all incoming families looking for executive function support by communicating the vision of Wright Academics. She also serves as an Executive Functioning and academics subject coach who has been with us since 2018. Before working with WA, she was a classroom teacher and has been trained in executive skills coaching. She is a well-rounded tutor coaching students in science, math, writing and reading which makes her a valuable asset to the leadership team. Movement and nature are important to weave into her approach as she finds students connect well this way. “I am on a team of really strong and intelligent women and it feels so special to help our community together.” She loves sports and nature, and tries to get outside with her twin boys as much as she can. When she is not working, you might find her instructing at a local cycle studio in Baltimore!
Family Success Manager & Executive Function Coach
Ashley (BS in Psychology and MA in Education from Loyola University) is our Client Success Manager at Wright Academics. She works closely with families to ensure good communication and relationships with both students/parents, and tutors. She is also one of our Executive Functioning coaches who is wonderful at making connections and fostering positive relationships. Before joining the Wright Academics team in 2020, she worked as a classroom teacher with students who had varying learning differences. Her favorite parts of being on the leadership team are working closely with the others on the team and communicating with the parents to ensure a positive experience with their child at Wright Academics. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running/working out, and being in nature. You will find her often cheering on her son’s baseball team-Roland Park baseball!
Director of Communications & Orton Gillingham Coach
Karen Macfarlane (BS in Education from Towson University and Masters work in Educational Leadership from Notre Dame of Maryland) is our Director of Communications at Wright Academics. She plays an integral part in clearly communicating with families. Karen also serves as an Executive Functioning, Dyslexic, and academic coach. Before coming to Wright Academics in 2018, she taught for a combined 25 years! Trained in Orton Gillingham and Phono-Graphix, Karen brings a unique perspective since she is also a parent of two dyslexic children. “As a parent of kids with learning differences, as well as a teacher and tutor, I believe I have a well rounded experience in advocating for academic support. I validate the struggle many students live with day by day, and also understand there is a way for each of us to learn.“ Her favorite part of being on the leadership team is being able to work with the others on the team to ensure each student’s success. When she is not working, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, Harlow and Pepper, biking on trails, seeing live music and theater, and cooking with and for her loved ones.
Finance and Teachworks Manager
Callie (BS in Secondary Math Education and MA in Intercultural Studies) is our Finance and Teachworks Manager. She began as a math and Executive Functioning tutor at Wright Academics in 2014 and soon became a part of the administrative team. Before joining the team, she worked as a classroom teacher, a coach, a College Adjunct Professor, and an administrative assistant. She has a passion for developing leaders who have a love for learning with worldwide experiences and perspectives. Her favorite part of working on the leadership team is getting a front row seat to the heart of Wright Academics. “Working for an organization that has the vision and heart of truly helping students succeed is inspiring and makes all the hard work with it.” After working in person in Towson for 6 years, Callie’s family relocated to Lusaka, Zambia and she now works remotely with our team. She enjoys coffee, international travel, reading, and spending time with friends and family. You might find her sending an email before going on a safari (her favorite African experience so far).
